Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our U.S.-based team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled, detail-oriented tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, managing complex tax engagements, and collaborating with a modern, tech-savvy team. You’ll prepare and review individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns while advising clients on strategic tax planning opportunities. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to mentoring team members and improving processes across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation & Review

  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals (1040), S corporations (1120-S), partnerships (1065), and C corporations (1120).
  • Analyze client financials to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with current tax laws and regulations.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide proactive recommendations for clients.

Accounting Review & Quality Control

  • Review monthly bookkeeping work prepared by our offshore team (India) in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
  • Ensure financials are accurate, reconciliations are complete, and deliverables align with client expectations.
  • Reconcile accounts and provide clients with P&L report, balance sheet, and insight on the financial health of their business

Client Communication & Advisory

  • Work directly with clients to gather data, clarify questions, and deliver exceptional service.
  • Communicate results and findings clearly, helping clients understand their tax positions and long-term implications.
  • Assist clients with tax planning, projections, and estimated tax calculations.

Research & Technical Development

  • Conduct tax research to resolve complex issues and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Stay current on evolving tax laws and regulations to maintain high technical proficiency.
  • Initiate and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and train junior staff, providing guidance and feedback to support professional growth and quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with the accounting and advisory teams to ensure seamless client service and holistic financial solutions.
  • Review bookkeeping or accounting work related to tax engagements as needed.

Compliance & Representation

  • Respond to inquiries and notices from the IRS and state taxing authorities.
  • Support clients through correspondence, documentation, and resolution of tax issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA license or CPA candidate preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent public accounting experience with a focus on tax compliance and planning.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and multi-state tax laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing complex individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working directly with small business owners and entrepreneurs preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO); familiarity with accounting cleanups and reconciliation processes.
  • Proficient in tax preparation software such as Thomson Reuters UltraTax and SurePrep
  • High proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts in clear, simple language.
  • A collaborative mindset with a commitment to mentoring and developing team members.
  • Comfortable working in a modern, cloud-based environment using tools such as Asana, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.

Job Requirements

  • CPA License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 2+ years of experience in public accounting
  • UltraTax and QBO experience a plus





Work location

  • Hybrid
  • Monday to Friday — Core hours are 10-4 pm (PST)
  • Ability to work up to 50 hours during tax deadlines
